As we grow older our eyes is one of the body parts that easily gets affected or damaged by so called “blue light” emitted by our television, computer and cell phones screens. In this article we will be talking about simple ways to care for your lovely set of eyes because once it’s damaged it’s kind of difficult to reverse it.
Too much time spent on gadgets such as cell phones are not good for our health. Some doctors even consider it as an addiction especially if your kid spends too much time using it. Even youngsters often suffer from eye problems due to over exposure to mobile phones. You as a parent should impose firm rules against using it. It should only be used for a limited period of time daily. Make sure to turn on the blue light filter on the settings to prevent their eyes from getting damaged causing them wear glasses at an early age.
Some adults take special supplements for eye vitamins to protect the eyes from blue light damage due to the everyday exposure to gadgets that is unavoidable. Common symptoms of eyestrain would be blurry vision, having difficulties driving (distance calculations), and dry eyes which give you discomfort and headaches.
If your work requires you to face the computer 8 to 12 hours a day,besides wearing glasses with anti-radiation or anti-glare protection, you should also give rest to your eyes at least 5 minutes every hour by just simply looking at a blank or white wall. This would help you relax and reduce incidents of eye strain which is common for people with computer based jobs. If you are already wearing glasses, make sure that its grade is always up to date. Visit your doctor at least once in every 6 months to update your eye grade. Use anti-radiation glasses if you areexposed to computers. Also if you have an extra budget, it won’t hurt to buy a pair of transition lens which can be used as your sunglasses when you are outdoors.
Do not smoke; if you do, you should quit smoking as soon as possible. Besides cancer smoking also causes you to have weaker vision and most likely suffer from cataracts and macular degeneration. Nicotine damages your optic nerve and long term exposure will cause you severe eye damage. Though cataracts are now treated through laser surgery, it can still re occur.
Be mindful of your diet; it’s an old saying but it’s really helpful in preventing eye damage. Eat foods that are rich in omega 3, lute in and zinc because they are good for your eyesight. Green leafy vegetables and salmon, tuna which are packed with omega 3 are very much recommended. Also keep your blood sugar in check because one of the side effects of having diabetes is blindness.
